Jamie Moses

Member (GCC(EI))

Jamie is a member of the Cree Nation of Eastmain along the James Bay coast. He was raised by his grandparents who are one of the last generations living mostly from the land.

In 2021, Jamie was appointed by the GCC(EI) as a Board member to the Eeyou Marine Region Wildlife Board. Jamie is currently the Language Commissioner for the Cree Nation Government.

Jamie’s career and life has always been about preserving Cree culture, language, and the land. He enjoys learning from Elders and language experts and passing this information on to the younger generation through cultural programming. His favourite programming to date being snowshoe excursions.

Protection of the environment has always remained a huge importance in the work Jamie has carried over there years, being active on the land to show his care for it. He wants to make sure the next generation also has the opportunity to learn about their history and able to practice these traditions.

Jamie believes that mixing cultural knowledge with various specialties complement each other, he values the ability to combine things Cree people have always had a deep understanding of with new ways of knowing.

In Eastmain, and throughout the Cree Nation, Jamie acts as a connection between elders and youth. He spends his spare time sharing what he’s learned with his community, whether it’s cleaning fish, making bear grease, or smoking tea.
