Public Hearings

The EMRWB is a public body that makes decisions affecting peoples’ interests and/or rights. Most of the decisions that the EMRWB makes are to establish, modify or remove restrictions on fundamental Cree harvesting rights. Any EMRWB decision that restricts Cree harvesting rights is subject to a high standard of procedural fairness. Up to now, all Board hearings have addressed Cree harvesting rights which are closely linked to Eeyou Indoh-Hoh Weeshou-Wehwun (Traditional Eeyou Hunting Law) and Naacatawaayatacano (conservation) and management of wildlife and other living resources of significant economic, social or cultural interest to the Cree.

According to the Board’s Administrative Procedures, EMRWB is committed to hold public hearings into wildlife issues requiring a decision on its part.
