Félix Boulanger

Wildlife Management Biologist

I joined the Eeyou Marine Region Wildlife Board in 2017. I currently work as the Wildlife Management Biologist and I am based in Waskaganish, where the Rupert River flows into the Bay. After my B.Sc. in Biology with a specialization in Ecology) in University of Sherbrooke, I worked in fish and wildlife management in a small community in the Eastern Townships for a few years, before going back to university for graduate studies. My graduate studies took me to the Abitibi region, where I studied the impact of ericaceous shrubs on black spruce regeneration. After my graduation, I was offered a job in Eeyou Istchee, where I have been working since 2008. Now, Waskaganish feels like home to me. I fell in love with the land, the wildlife, the people and the Bay.

In this position, I work mostly on documenting wildlife and facilitating research in the Eeyou Marine Region. We target the species that are most important to the Cree as well as the species at risk. My job is to work towards the development and effective application of a wildlife management regime as set out in chapter 13 of the EMR Land Claims Agreement. In doing so, I work in close collaboration with the Cree Trappers’ Association, in all five coastal communities of the Eeyou Marine Region
