NMRWB-EMRWB Public Hearing Announcement – Consideration for listing three whale species as “Special Concern” status under the federal Species at Risk Act

The Eeyou Marine Region Wildlife Board (EMRWB) and the Nunavik Marine Region Wildlife Board (NMRWB) will be conducting a Joint Written Public Hearing to consider the proposed listing of three whale species as “Special Concern” under the Canadian Species at Risk Act (SARA). The species in question are Bottlenose Whale, Bowhead Whale, and Killer Whale.

October 29, 2021 – Posting of public hearing notice.

November 5, 2021 – Deadline for party status application.

November 9, 2021 – Deadline for filing relevant information from parties.

November 26, 2021 – Deadline for parties to submit written questions. Deadline for a conference call with any interested LNUKs and Local Cree Trapper’s associations to facilitate questions between parties and/or the government.

December 3, 2021 – Deadline for answers to written questions and unanswered questions from the conference call.

December 13, 2021 – Deadline for final written submissions, including answers to written questions.
